  4. If you are uncertain of what some patches in NAG-BUSTER do, then
  5. read the information in this file. There will normally be a one-
  6. word hint of what all patches do in the DOS and Windows menus in
  7. NAG-BUSTER. But they may be wrong or insufficient. If you do not
  8. see any difference in your program after running NAG-BUSTER, then
  9. try and find out if there is a way to register your program from
  10. your program or from the command line. If there is, then it might
  11. work, since this is what NAG-BUSTER fixed!

  14. DOS-programs:
  15. -----------------------

  17. CDS - Catalog Search 2.2:
  18. ------------------------
  19. The patch will make registering of CDS.EXE possible. An undocumented
  20. feature in CDS lets the user register by loading CDS.EXE with
  21. the parameter /REGISTER. Before running the patch in NAG-BUSTER, the
  22. program will not be registered. You will not see a message telling
  23. you that CDS.KEY is created. But if you run NAG-BUSTER's patch
  24. first, and then load CDS /REGISTER (and enter some values you
  25. choose), then CDS will be like the registered program.
  26. In case you try to load CDS after running NAG-BUSTER, and notice the
  27. "Please register" text on the statusline - don't be confused! There 
  28. are no errors in the patch - I have removed the nag windows in CDS 
  29. anyway - but left the text on the statusline, since it disappears when
  30. you run CDS /REGISTER!

  32. PCopy v.9.3
  33. ------------------
  34. Apparently the patch does nothing since you won't notice any differences
  35. when running PCopy after patching. But look again! Start PCOPY with
  36. the parameter /RE (for REgister) and insert any values in the fields - 
  37. PCOPY is now registered!

  41. The asterisk in the DOS menu indicates that this 5.00 version is 
  42. probably a non-existing version, meaning that somebody has hacked 
  43. an earlier version. The program is supported by NAG-BUSTER, though.

  45. The Shez programs:
  46. -----------------
  47. These programs will, after running NAG-BUSTER, also be registered.
  48. That is, you have to enter Shez once after patching it, look up
  49. the registration code (which now is visible!), then exit Shez and
  50. run the registration program (SETUP), entering the code there - 
  51. together with your name. The next time you run Shez, the nag is
  52. gone, and you name is on the screen!

  54. The Blue Wave programs:
  55. -----------------------
  56. Almost as with the Shez programs: after running NAG-BUSTER, you
  57. must enter BWAVE.EXE and live through the nag and delay once more.
  58. You can enter your name and a random code (BWAVE will accept any
  59. value you enter now!) and BWAVE is like the registered program!

  61. FFF - File Finder and Directory finder:

  63. The configuration file FFFCFG.COM is patched, to let you enter 
  64. the registration code and hence make FFF registered.

  67. VGACOPY PRO 3.2
  68. ----------------
  69. This program is strange itself, but the compression method is even more
  70. so. Either the author has got a new, strange TINYPROG version (which is 
  71. unlikely since the compression method seems identical to the TINYPROG 3.8 
  72. version). What seems to be a bit strange is the fact that the compression
  73. header i VGACOPY.EXE apparently shows that it has been compressed with
  74. PKLITE. A closer study reveals that VGACOPY.EXE is only camouflaged
  75. with the PKLITE header. The TINYPROG header starts a bit further out in 
  76. the .EXE file, and with self-modifying code, VGACOPY jumps to the correct
  77. location for program execution with decompression to memory.

  79. The author of VGACOPY has obiously put a lot of effort in trying to confuse
  80. compression reckognizers. We had to add another procedure to reckognize 
  81. programs compressed this way, but c'est la vie! We suppose there will be
  82. a lot of this in the future...

  84. There is now only one problem left in patching VGACOPY. NAG-BUSTER must
  85. do it twice! First, NAG-BUSTER must change a few bytes in VGACOPY.EXE to
  86. be able to decompress and patch it afterwards. This should work 
  87. satisfactory. It would be more satisfactory to complete the job in one
  88. operation, but we will not rewrite both BUSTER.EXE and COMPBUST.EXE just
  89. for this one 'tweaky' program. 
  90. So, if you have problems with this patch, you haven't read this!!

  97. Complete Works 1.6 (Lite):

  100. NAG-BUSTER won't regain time used in Complete Works, it will only halt
  101. the time routine. So if you have used all your time and Complete Works
  102. won't save messages or print - NAG-BUSTER will not change this. 
  103. You have to start out with a fresh edition of COMPLETE.EXE. Copy it
  104. from you backup diskette and patch this edition. Not a used one!

  106. IconMaster 1.2 c/d.

  108. Both the slash in the version number and the asterisk in the Windows
  109. menu indicates that the author of IconMaster uses both c and d in
  110. the program, so we are not sure what he means...

  112. Paint Shop 1.31 (by R. Voit)
  113. ----------------------------
  114. Both this program, version number and .EXE-filesize is identical to
  115. Paint Shop 1.31 by JASC, Inc., so one of them is probably a hacked
  116. edition of the other.
